Bharatanatyam

The oldest form of classical dance in India, originating around 2nd Century B.C. in Hindu Temples in Tamil Nadu in South India. It represents Bhava (expression), Raga (melody), and Tala (rhythm), and Natya (dance). The philosophy of this dance is to search the soul, express devotion, and receive blessings from Lord Nataraja.

Arangetram

“Arangetram” is a Tamil word for “ascending the stage”. It represents a first solo performance of a dancer after years of training. The performance is around 2-4 hours and a dancer must train for endurance, concentration, and stamina. There are set items for the performance which typically include 9 pieces.
